After your pet passes away, your mind may go back to special moments that you shared together. Maybe you will think about the walks you took together or cuddling up to eat each other while watching your favorite movie or tv show. A time when you are more likely to think about your beloved pet more than usual is on the anniversary of when it passed away. Since you will probably think about your pet a lot on that date, you may want to celebrate the anniversary to honor its memory.

The following includes ways that you could celebrate the anniversary of the death of a pet.

1) Reminisce and Share Stories with Others who Loved Him/Her

Getting a group of close friends or family members together to reminisce and share stories of your beloved pet will prevent you from having to go through a difficult time alone. Your friends and family will most likely have stories to share as well to help you celebrate the life of your pet. You all will be able to laugh and cry together as you bring back memories of the good times shared with your pet.

2) Start a New Ritual/Tradition and Let it Evolve Over the Years.

Starting a new ritual or tradition is a great way to celebrate the anniversary of the death of a pet. Donating your time to an animal shelter on that date is a tradition that you may want to consider. Doing so will allow you to be surrounded by other animals and pet lovers.

3) Write a Letter to Your Pet

Writing a letter to your pet will allow you to express your feelings and ease your mind. You could write what you would say to your pet if you could spend one more moment with it here on earth. It may be a good idea to write the letter in a journal so you can revisit it year after year to write additional letters.

4) Release a Balloon with a Message on It

Celebrating the life of a pet is a time when balloons can be used. On the anniversary of the death of your pet, consider writing a message on a balloon and releasing it to reach your beloved pet in heaven.

There are many things that you could do to celebrate the anniversary of the death of your pet. Whether you decide to reminisce with family and friends, write a letter to your pet, or celebrate another way, take that day to honor the life of your pet in a special way.
